Crookneck squash June 09

I love the way these squash plants look. You can see the little buds of flowers starting along the stem. We should be up to our noses in summer squash pretty soon!

Bell Pepper June 09

This is the second big yellow bell pepper I've picked from the same plant. I'm really impressed how much it can produce. Green, yellow, orange and red bell peppers are all just varying amounts of ripeness of the same type of pepper.
This one never even made it into the house, we just ate it up in the yard!

Baby Bell Pepper

I have a little bell pepper plant that is about a foot high and has SIX peppers on it. This one is the runt of the litter, but I needed it for todays cooking. That's a tablespoon it's sitting in! I'm not going to pick the others until they change colors.

Yellow Flower

This little potted plant spends the whole year looking like some kind of weedy grass. But once a year it puts up a couple of these beautiful flowers.

Root Harvest

We harvested these beets and carrots today. These were planted at the end of October so these represent 20 weeks from seed to harvest.

This is about half of the harvest so we have a lot more in the ground from that plant date plus another whole batch that was planted 2 weeks after this batch!

Mess O'Greens

These are half of the beet greens I harvested today.

Sanctuary!

We had a visitor to the yard this morning. Maybe she was seeking sanctuary. As the little girl next door says "grandma kills the chicken, and turns it into chicken".

Compost Potato

This potato refused to accept the defeat of being tossed into the compost bin. I moved her into a nice sunny spot in the yard today and hope she will continue to grow.
